Spreadsheet-drunk dazzler,
Self-deal preserves,
Daring dice feeling,
Damocles’ nerves.

Risks intermixed with
Holoviz rafts,
Promises age so
Faith stays enmask’d.

Time sews new factum,
Tygers‘ nurse roots,
Hail Mary culture,
Bowed heads commute.

Egged for the fences,
HR FU,
Way-station NA,i
Singles still do.

Sirens sing promise,
Pitch extra sauce,
There is no try,
Do… or do not.

  1. Speaking of the way-station that is North America, this topic came up recently in the almighty forum:

Pete: Dear 113, please to explain “flattening mirror” concept for those of us at the back

113: We’re in a dark age and don’t have computers yet. We’re a society of illiteracy again. We don’t have the printing press. We are beating each other to death with its unbuilt pieces. We are taking its unbuilt gears and scribbling prior media all over the walls (images, text, sound, etc) of the yet-started printshop. Humankind has yet to design advanced affordances and cultures atop the representational frontier of the transistor at its size and temporal scales. Our illiteracy must be productized and sold to us. So one gets to ride a train in New York holding a silver sliver. Feeling a cosmopolitan veneer. Feeling the aesthetic sophistication register of Brancusi’s Bird in Space rather than seeing it as ox carts being pulled around cobblestone. A flattering mirror.

Pete: So the “flattening” is our unjustified contentedness? Almost an unwillful and unwitting “lying flat” “躺平” (tǎng píng)

113: Yes. Young people are sold “Learn to code” or even now “AI has made coding obsolete” rather than “You could invent the multiplication sign” or “You could be Leonardo DaVinci for computing maybe it is that wide open.”

Pete: Y’know I’m not so sure that the next da Vinci will be born in North America. Not least of all because it seems that narrow-minded doomer culture is so prevalent on this continent. But having just come back from Israel I can say that there’s at least one place on this planet where they act first and ask questions later. There’s none of this death by a 1000 subcommittees and focus groups. Which I feel is somehow related to this same sentiment of “AI makes jobs obsolete… so don’t bother trying to build, just consume consume consume

113: Fascinating yeah. I’m North America and Ethereum/Tech/Aesthetics Twitter bubble for sure.

Pete: There’s something weird about North America. On one hand it’s the ultimate place for ambition in the world today. So people immigrate from the four corners of the globe to “make it” and “hit home runs” by making “fuck you money”. But on the other hand that effect and ambition has a wicked fast half-life and by like the 4th or 5th generation here it’s all gone. And we somehow get the relative stasis seen with Indigenous communities for the last 20,000 years. “The Land Remembers” being the basic thesis here. Of course the Indigenous peoples of North America were absolute geniuses when it came to understanding parallel universes, alternate realities, and the interconnected fabric of the everything seen and unseen, but being technologically ambitious builders doesn’t seem to have been in their DNA. Which I propose is more a function of the land than their DNA as such, y’know epigenetics and all that.

Which is why most ambitious folks come here to work their asses off and peace the fuck out ASAP.

I mean, don’t we all want to spend our final days in Maui or the south of France?
