In Atlanta this past week, between trips to the completely chaotic Magic City,i I found myself sipping cocktails at a low-rent lobby bar with my main man Davey Walton.ii United by our passion for cars (and money),iii the subject of “dream garages” naturally came up. And would you believe that our “dream” collections had an incredible amount of overlap?
Now, this could be for a few reasons! The most obvious of which is algorithmically-mediated preference concentration, the exact same sort that made steel 5711s “worth” $200k a few couple ago, but the other is that there are only so many great “cathedrals” being built today, as ever. So just as Reims, Chartres, and Notre Dame were singular in the spiritual heights they reached and are still appreciated today for their unparalleled architectural and artistic accomplishments, so too are the current best-of-breed in the automotive world the rare and cherished products of brilliance, craftsmanship, and single-minded excellence. And just as most of what passes for “architecture” is spec-minimum pragmatically-driven appliances, so too with automotive design. But that’s not what makes our hearts sing! Nor it is was best represents the elusive light of eternity on earth.
So what’s in our Dream Garages?iv
1. Singer DLSv
2. Gordon Murray T.50s Niki Laudavi
3. Porsche 918 Spydervii
4. Bugatti Tourbillonviii
5. Ferrari Purosangueix
And what do these all have in common?? Why, nothing less than tonal transcendence! Towards the 9,000+ RPM redlines of all these vehicles, in the higher octaves of connected being is enlightenment attained. These variously superlative and goosebump-inducing machines are renowned for their elevated resonances, and accordingly command princely sums from their dealers. Higher-energy beings, after all, demand higher-energy constructions to express their content!
Whether that with cars, cathedrals, colliders,x or pyramids, higher energetic octaves have a fundamental need to be expressed. So they are.
Can you hear them?xi
- Gentlemen’s Clubs are an important part of “banana rehab” donchaknow. Also of anthropologically unparalleled value! ↩
- Legend has it that the Walmart founders are related to him. Get it right. ↩
- While I love money, I’m nowhere near as forward in talking about it as upper-crust American men are. If Brexit-1776-Edition was about anything, it was surely about open money talk! Alas, my Canadian / Old World upbringing hasn’t given me that level of comfort with that particular topic (which is hilarious because I’m almost entirely unfiltered everywhere else), but I’m sure I’ll be able to get the hang of it once we’re living in the 51st State. ↩
- Of course, this “dream garage” is, for your humble author at least, a touch tone-deaf and lacking in sensitivity for his present family- and community-oriented context. And per Tyler, context is that which is scarce! So for someone who tries to be as contextually aware as possible, constantly pushing the limits of the envelope but mindful of the diminishing returns of overstepping his bounds, a G550, Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, GT3 Touring, and a DD2 kart are pretty much the complete package for a well-heeled middle aged dad in this corner of the (communist) globe. ↩
- C. Harris on the subject:
↩ - Yes the Niki Lauda is “track only” but that just means you need to call Lanzante before taking it to the corner store for milk!
↩ - I was always a LaFerrari guy but I think the 918 engine sound is aging better. Maybe I’m becoming more of a V8-head in my old age? Hit it TH!
↩ - Terrible name but NA V16!!!
↩ - I’m not personally in love with the looks of the Purosangue and might take a GTC4Lusso instead, but regardless there’s no better engine in any “utility vehicle” on the road today.
↩ - eg. CERN. ↩
- To quote Walter Russell from “The Universal One” (1926) on the topic of octaves:
Man may shift his thinking from the low speed of his outer mind to the higher speeds of his inner Mind at will, even as he can shift the gears of his motor car.
Man’s thinking in his low octaves of bodily integration is like a man running his motor on low gear ignorant of the fact that he has higher gears. Man’s thinking in the higher octaves is like a man who is aware of higher gears in his car and knowingly uses them.
Universal Mind thinks in light and registers that thinking in light which is integrated into the idea of the thinking, and suspended for a time in the lower octaves of light in the appearance of form.
Man’s outer mind is an integration of light in the lower octaves of that which he calls “matter” and man’s outer mind thinks in the dimensions, or illusions, of Mind or matter.
